Top Three Tips to Follow If You Want to Stay Healthy and Fit Throughout the Christmas Holidays

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. It is the season of giving and forgiving, and everyone is in a good mood. Christmas is also about celebrations, and when you talk about celebrations, you talk about parties and food. A lot of people tend to overeat during the Christmas holidays because, well, there’s a lot of good food wherever you go! To help carry you through the Christmas holidays and all its tempting treats, here are three tips you should follow:

1. Eat First Before Leaving the House.

Unless you are going to a party, you should eat first before leaving the house. If you do this, you won’t be tempted to eat the often unhealthy holiday treats you’ll find at the mall or wherever it is you are going. Well, even if you’re off to a party, you can eat at home before going to the venue. This will help make you eat less at the party or get-together. You won’t be tempted to overindulge, especially if there are a lot of sweets spread on the table. You can go for some cocktails instead. You’ll still be eating, but at least you won’t be feasting on too much food!

2. Do Not Skip Meals.

Sometimes, because you’re too engrossed in your holiday shopping or with last minute work requirements and deadlines, you tend to forget to eat. You skip meals. Sometimes, too, you wake up late and skip breakfast. Do not do this. Never skip any meal. If you forget to eat even just one meal, you will end up craving for all the wrong types of food the whole day! If you’re in a hurry, go for small and convenient meals like oats and fresh fruits at breakfast and a salad for lunch.

3. Be Active. Go Outdoors. Be Creative in Your Workouts.

Even if you’re busy buying presents or visiting relatives, you should find time to exercise and go outdoors. You may not be able to go to the gym like your usual routine, but you can do something to improvise your workouts. Be creative and think of how you can squeeze in some exercise while wrapping presents or while decorating the Christmas tree. You’ll be surprised at what you are capable of doing! Also, as much as possible, plan trips with your family and friends that allow you to enjoy the outdoors. Do not stay home and be a couch potato (the holidays has that kind of effect sometimes)! Build a snowman in your backyard and enjoy a snowball fight or two with your family and friends.

Here are the Top Three Reasons for Obesity

Obesity is a major problem not only in the United States but throughout the world. Wherever you go, there are people sharing stories about their weight problems. Overweight and obesity problems. While the most common reason for gaining weight is eating too much and not working out or going to the gym, there are other reasons – other factors -that lead to this problem. Here are three of them:

1. Heredity

Yes, heredity can be a major factor to becoming overweight and obese, but this is not true for everyone. Some behaviors and genes can make a person susceptible to obesity, but this will only come into play if other factors get into the picture. So, if your parents are on the heavy side, it does not necessarily follow that you will be, too. This can only happen if you allow it, too, which is where the behavior aspect comes in. If you grow up adopting an unhealthy lifestyle, there is a big possibility of you becoming obese. Additionally, certain genetic conditions can cause obesity. Two examples are the Prader-Willi syndrome and the Bardet-Biedly syndrome.

2. An idle lifestyle

Nowadays, thousands of people have adopted the couch potato lifestyle. Instead of going outdoors when the weather is fine, they stay indoors and sit or lie for hours on the couch watching TV or movies, or playing video games. Often, regular meals are forgotten, and junk food or fast food meals take their place. Most couch potatoes seldom get up to even stretch and sometimes find going to the bathroom a difficult task. This is what an unhealthy lifestyle is all about!

3. Diet

It’s not just how much you eat but also what you eat. You may not eat too much – just enough – but they’re never the right food. Instead of a full meal, you go for a fast food burger. Instead of water, you drink juices and cola. Instead of vegetables, you eat French fries from your favorite fast food. You eat only enough of these, but you don’t supplement these with their healthier counterparts. So, yes, it is possible for you to get fat. It is important to eat only enough and to eat only what is good for your health.
